The association between viewing aggressive and violent television and later antisocial behaviors is well established. Many children are exposed to more than 40,000 commercials per year. So what about their content? Researchers examined the content of all morning and afternoon commercials on three popular children’s channels for three months. Even though the majority of the commercials were coded as “neutral”, 13.5 percent showed violent behavior, negative modeling, and sexual behavior.
PositiveTip: Even if the content is wholesome, it is important for parents to control and what is being viewed, and maybe even turn off the commercials.
