Processed and Fried Foods Increase Risk of IBD

Many individuals suffer from some type of inflammatory bowel disease. A large international study of over 116,000 participants found the consumption of ultra-processed and fried foods increased the risk of this common problem. Consuming more than five servings of ultra-processed foods (soft drinks and processed meats) per day significantly increased the risk. Eating fried foods (such as chicken nuggets and French fries) increased the risk even more. More research is warranted as self-reported data was used.

PositiveTip: Focusing the diet on whole foods with minimal processing is a healthy way of eating and lowers the risk of many health problems.
