Research at 7 Texas high schools shows that more than a quarter (28%) of students had sent a “sext”–a naked picture of themselves on their cell phone or via email. This sexting behavior was associated with greater likelihood of dating or having sex for both boys and girls, and with risky sexual behavior for girls. Boys were more likely to have asked for a “sext” than girls (46% vs. 21%).
PositiveTip: Parents and teachers should discuss sexting and its risks with young people.
