Obese Men Needed Extra Exercise to Reduce Diabetes Risk

Physical activity is known to lower the risk of diabetes, and overweight and obesity raises the risk. An analysis of the prospective Physicians’ Health Study has revealed that in normal-weight and overweight men progressively higher intensities of exercise resulted in a significantly lower incidence of diabetes. However, in contrast only the obese (body mass index of 30 or higher) men who exercised 5 or more times per week had significantly lower rates of diabetes.

PositiveTip: While exercise benefited all, those in the obese category of weight needed at least 5 days of exercise per week to reduce their risk of diabetes.
