Obese Kids Already Have Heart Disease Risks

Dutch scientists have found that two thirds of severely obese children 12 years and younger already have one or more risk factors for heart disease. Of the youth between 2 and 18 years old, 56% had hypertension, 54% had low HDL cholesterol, and 14% had high blood glucose levels. Boys over 12 tended to have more risk factors than the other sex and age groups. Notably, one third of these severely obese children came from one-parent homes.
