Children experiencing nighttime cough experienced symptom relief and sleep quality by receiving 10 grams (1 tsp) of honey within 30 minutes of bedtime. Almost 300 children 1-5 years old with upper respiratory infections were randomized to either the honey or a placebo. This study was funded in part by the Honey Board of Israel, however, a placebo group was included. Honey should never be given to children under 1 year old due to the risk for botulism.
PositiveTip: Honey may be an effective and safe treatment for children’s cough.
