Awake and interactive ICU patients who received music therapy via noise-canceling headphones experienced significantly lower daily anxiety scores compared to those on usual care or a group who used noise-canceling headphones only (no music). There were limitations to this study, but music therapy could help limit the use of sedatives in ICUs.
