“Cinnamon Game” Dangers

A growing fad among teens is to accept a dare to swallow a spoonful of ground cinnamon without any fluid within 60 seconds. Although the known health risks of cinnamon consumption are relatively low, symptoms of attempting this 60-second challenge include coughing and burning of the mouth, nose, and throat, vomiting, nosebleeds, and even hospitalization for collapsed lungs. Not surprisingly, people with asthma are at greater risk for trouble breathing.

PositiveTip: Inhalation of the spice cinnamon should be discouraged. Tell all the teens you know.
