Some call it the vitamin of the year! Yet there are still more questions than answers. Many studies have reported that much of the population has insufficient Vitamin D levels. If you live in Miami and have brown skin that rarely burns, you’d need 29 minutes of wintertime sun exposure at noon to make 1000 IU of vitamin D. But if you live in Boston and have fair skin, you couldn’t spend enough time after 2 PM to synthesize sufficient vitamin D.
PositiveTip: Consumption of dairy milk or a vitamin D fortified soy beverage at least once per week (preferably daily) and/or a supplement may reduce your risk of vitamin D deficiency.
