C. Everett Koop, MD, former U.S. Surgeon General is dead at age 96. As surgeon general under President Ronald Reagan, he waged a public war against smoking, defended the right to live of disabled newborns, and educated a fearful nation about AIDS. His passing was announced by the Koop Institute at Dartmouth College.
