The third leading cause of death in U.S. women is stroke. Just over half (52%) of 1205 women surveyed identified sudden one-sided weakness or numbness of the face or a limb as a stroke warning sign. Other stroke signs were not recognized as well. Just like heart attacks, the sooner treatment is started the better the outcomes. The authors suggested calling a stroke a 'brain attack' might help improve public awareness.
