Beware of ‘Southern’ Fare

Those consuming the largest amounts of "Southern" fare (fried foods, organ and processed meats, and sweetened tea) had a 41% higher risk of stroke than those eating the least. Even after controlling for smoking and physical activity, this preliminary data from the REGARDS study shows a 30% increase in the chance of stroke. Not surprisingly, the highest consumers of this type diet  live in the 7-state "Stroke Belt" of the United States.

PositiveTip: Lower your risk of stroke by avoiding "Southern" fare and focusing on a plant-based diet packed with vegetables, fruit, and legumes.
