Don’t Ever Slow Down!

Exercise adds years to your life.

Want some proof? Scientists spent 35 years studying the exercise habits of Swedish men, who were 50 years old at the beginning of the research. Their findings were published in the British Medical Journal.

Senior cycling.

The study began in 1970 with 2,205 50-year-old men. The men were re-examined at ages 60, 70, 77 and 82.

Their physical activity levels were classified as:

  • “low” (325 men),
  • “medium,” (802 men) or
  • “high” (1078 men).

At the end of 35 years, 60% (1,329 men) of the original study group had died.

Men who said they consistently and continuously maintained high levels of physical activity lived an average of 3.8 years longer than sedentary men and 1.8 years longer than men in the medium physical activity group.

So, men? Don’t slow down! Keep on exercising beyond 50, 60, 70 and even 80 years of age. You really can outrun death—at least for 3 or 4 years.

The Bible reminds us, “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.1 Timothy 4:8

In addition to our physical activities, spiritual exercise will keep us in shape for the life to come.
